We're thrilled to introduce a brand new monthly column from a face you'll definitely recognize from around town, Eddie Poole! More on that coming up. 🏘️ Planning Commission Approves 127-Home Townhome Development
The Mt. Juliet Planning Commission has approved the Golden Bear Townhome Development, a 127-unit community planned near Beckwith Road — but not without some serious questions.
Commissioners raised concerns about the development's single entrance and exit, its proximity to wetlands, and its location near a 100-year floodplain. The developer's engineering team responded that the project is designed to meet FEMA floodplain standards, including a bridge built above the 100-year flood level. Notably, construction cannot begin until FEMA completes a required flood study — and if that review requires changes, the plans must return to the Planning Commission.
With growth showing no signs of slowing down, how Mt. Juliet handles decisions like this one will shape the community for years to come.
❤️ Mt. Juliet Community Shows Up When It Matters Most

Earlier this week, a Mt. Juliet resident spotted someone in distress near the S. Mt. Juliet Road overpass at I-40 and made a call for help. That one decision set everything in motion.
Dispatchers at the City's Advanced Response Communications Center (ARCC) used public safety cameras, drones, and license plate readers to locate the individual and guide responders to the scene.
Mt. Juliet firefighters arrived first and began de-escalating the situation, followed by police officers and the department's Mental Health Co-Responder. The individual was safely connected with mental health professionals for further care.
This story started with a neighbor who simply paid attention — and our first responders took it from there. From the dispatchers to the firefighters, officers, and mental health professionals on the ground, they handled a difficult situation with skill and compassion. We're grateful for every one of them.
That's Mt. Juliet at its best.

There are a lot of things to LOVE about Mt. Juliet.
Ask ten people what makes this city special, and you'll probably get ten different answers.
A few years ago, I actually conducted a poll asking a couple hundred people what they loved most about Mt. Juliet. The results surprised me. The number one answer wasn't the schools, the parks, or the shopping.
It was the Mt. Juliet Police Department.
We may be one of the few cities in America where the police department is one of the community's favorite things!
Of course, the MJPD helps make Mt. Juliet one of the safest cities in Tennessee, but I don't think that's the main reason people appreciate them. I believe it's because they're genuinely part of the community.
Whether it's Coffee with a Cop, interacting with residents on social media, playing basketball with neighborhood kids, sledding after a snow, or simply showing up with a smile at local events, our officers have built relationships with the people they serve. Those small moments have created a tremendous amount of trust and goodwill.
Another thing I love about Mt. Juliet is our churches.
We have churches representing many different denominations and styles, so there's truly a place for just about anyone who wants to attend. But what impresses me most isn't their differences—it's how well they work together.
Organizations like Everyone's Wilson help bring pastors, churches, businesses, nonprofits, and community leaders together to make our city stronger. When families face hardship or our community experiences a tragedy, these churches don't compete—they cooperate. They roll up their sleeves and serve together. That's something special.
Education is another reason so many families choose Mt. Juliet.
When I was in the fourth grade, my parents moved our family here because they wanted me to attend a better school system. (I'm a proud Lakeview Elementary graduate!) Decades later, as a Realtor, I hear that same story from families relocating here every week. Great schools continue to be one of Mt. Juliet's greatest strengths.
I've had the privilege of watching Mt. Juliet grow from a small town into one of Middle Tennessee's most desirable places to live. We've welcomed thousands of new neighbors, added businesses, restaurants, parks, and neighborhoods, and experienced tremendous growth.
But through all those changes, the heart of Mt. Juliet has remained remarkably consistent.
For me, the best part of Mt. Juliet has always been the people.
I can stop at the grocery store, Chick-fil-A, or a ballgame and almost always be greeted with a smile. People still hold the door for one another. They stop to talk. They help when someone needs a hand.
We saw that on full display after the tornado. Neighbors helped neighbors. Churches served together. Complete strangers showed up with chainsaws, meals, supplies, and willing hands. That's the kind of community Mt. Juliet is.
Sure, every town has the occasional "Mr. Grumpy Pants." But in my experience, those folks are greatly outnumbered by people who genuinely care about each other.
That's why I love Mt. Juliet.
It's not because of the new restaurants, beautiful parks, convenient location, or even our excellent schools.
It's because this city still has something that's becoming harder and harder to find—a community where people genuinely care about one another.
And to me, that's what truly makes Mt. Juliet feel like home.
After all these years, I'm still grateful to call Mt. Juliet home—and I'm thankful to help others find a home here too.
New in Town
What’s Coming to Pleasant Grove Road? 🚧
If you’ve noticed the construction equipment and fencing next to At Home on Pleasant Grove Road, here’s the scoop—a new Victory Nissan dealership is on its way to Mt. Juliet.
The groundbreaking is scheduled for August 14th, marking the start of a new chapter for this growing area. The new dealership will offer both new and used vehicles and add another business to the Pleasant Grove Road corridor.
🌮 Casa Mezcal Opening Back on Track
Casa Mezcal 11804 Lebanon Rd, Mt. Juliet
Great news for Mt. Juliet! After a lengthy delay, Casa Mezcal's opening is officially back on track. The highly anticipated Mexican restaurant on Lebanon Road is now expected to open in August, bringing made-from-scratch Mexican cuisine, a full-service dining room, and an outdoor patio to the community. We'll share the official opening date as soon as it's announced.
🪑 Brooke’s on Main Soft Opening
A familiar Mt. Juliet favorite is getting a new home! Brooke’s on Main is moving from its former location near Lebanon Road to 1440 Rutland Drive and will celebrate its soft opening on July 23rd. Stop by and welcome them to their new space as they begin this exciting next chapter in Mt. Juliet! 💙
🍧 A Sweet New Addition Is Coming to Mt. Juliet!
A new frozen treat destination is on the way! Cocopilla Italian Ice, Gelato & Soft Ice will be opening at 2236 N. Mt. Juliet Road, taking over the former Jeremiah's Ice location. We can't wait to welcome them to Mt. Juliet and look forward to enjoying their delicious frozen treats soon! 🍦
🏗️ New Retail Center Taking Shape near Jackson Hills
Construction is officially underway on the new retail center next to Golden Bear Market, Tim Hortons, and Milestone Deli, just in front of the Jackson Hills community. While work is still in the early stages, three tenants have already been announced: an insurance company, a nail salon, and Twisted Sugar, known for its gourmet cookies, dirty sodas, and refreshing drinks.
We'll be keeping a close eye on this development and will share updates as additional tenants are announced and opening dates become available. Stay tuned!

Denise is a SoCal native who has called Middle Tennessee home for 25 years. A self-proclaimed foodie, she’s always on the hunt for the area's latest and greatest restaurants—though during football season, you’ll likely find her locked into a game.
Mike originally hails from New Jersey and has lived in Mt. Juliet for over 30 years. When he isn’t cheering on his favorite college and pro football teams, he loves getting out to catch some live local rock music.
Together, we started What’s Up Mt. Juliet because we believe there is so much to love about this great city. Each week, our goal is to bring you the best of Mt Juliet…and hopefully brighten your day along the way!
