Surcheros — Mt. Juliet's Newest Mexican Favorite Is Worth Every Bite 🌯

I'll be honest — Surcheros was a new name to me. But when I heard a fresh Mexican spot was opening near Costco off Golden Bear Gateway, I didn't need much convincing. I love Mexican food, and I knew I had to check it out. After my first visit, I can tell you one thing — this one is going to be a regular stop for our family.

First Impressions

Walking in, the first thing you notice is how fresh everything looks. The menu is front and center, the setup is clean and welcoming, and the team member who greeted us was genuinely friendly and patient. I had about a million questions and he answered every single one without missing a beat. That kind of hospitality goes a long way!

The concept is simple — think Chipotle-style ordering — but don't let that fool you. The customization options here are truly endless, and everything on the menu sounds so good that narrowing it down is honestly the hardest part.

Build Your Own Dream Meal

Let's talk about the options, because there are a lot of them! If you're going the burrito or quesadilla route, start with your choice of large flour, spinach, or jalapeño cheddar tortillas — and if you haven't tried the jalapeño cheddar yet, put that at the top of your list. 🌶️ Of course, if a burrito bowl, nachos, or quesadilla is more your style, they've got you covered there too!

Proteins include chicken, steak, beef, carnitas, or a vegetarian option for those skipping the meat. From there, choose from two types of rice, two types of beans, and all the toppings your heart desires. One of the best features? They'll grill anything you want and add it right to your entrée. I highly recommend the spinach, yellow onions, and mushrooms — trust me on this one!

Top it all off with one of their delicious sauces like the Cilantro Ranch or the Surchero's Sauce, which was enthusiastically recommended by the couple in line ahead of us — and they were absolutely right. Oh, and did I mention the guacamole is FREE? 🥑

What We Ordered

Our family of four settled on a Veggie Quesadilla, Veggie Nachos, a Burrito Bowl, and a Kid's Chicken Taco Meal — and we were not prepared for just how big the portions would be!

The Veggie Quesadilla was delicious with the perfect amount of toppings, and my daughter ended up taking half of it home for lunch the next day. That's always a good sign! 😄

My husband went with the Burrito Bowl and, since he's been on a health kick lately, loaded it up with fresh veggies and a little sour cream on the side. He said it was incredibly fresh and flavorful — and he definitely did not leave hungry.

I ordered the Nachos — because queso is my weakness and I have zero regrets. 😄 The queso was served on the side to keep the chips from getting soggy, which was a thoughtful touch. I loaded mine up with grilled and fresh veggies, cilantro lime rice, both pinto and black beans, and Surchero's Sauce. That sauce is something special — creamy, smoky, and spicy all at once. The nachos were an absolute hit!

My youngest went with the Kid's Chicken Taco Meal and loved every bite — and was especially excited to find an Oreo cookie treat included for dessert. Safe to say she's already asking when we're going back! 🍪

Don't Skip the Salsa Bar

The salsa bar is a great touch and worth spending a little time at. Our family favorites were the tomatillo salsa and the spicy garlic, though the house salsa held its own too. And if you really like heat, there's a selection of hot sauces waiting for you right on top! 🔥

The Drinks

The drink station featured two unique "Tractor" beverages — a Mandarin Cardamom and a Berry Punch. Both were refreshing with a fun little kick of spice that paired perfectly with the meal.

The Space

The dining area is spacious and comfortable, and there's even an outdoor patio complete with string lights for those nights when you just want to enjoy the fresh air with a good meal. 🌟

The Verdict

Surcheros is a fantastic addition to Mt. Juliet, and our family left completely impressed. The freshness of the ingredients, the endless customization options, the generous portions, and the friendly staff all make this a place worth visiting again and again. We didn't get to try the house-made margaritas this time around — but honestly, that just gives us a great excuse to go back. And we will. 🌮🥂

📝 Quick Update: Since writing this article, I made another trip back to Surcheros about a week later and noticed a few changes to the menu. The Kid's Taco Meal is no longer available, some of the prices have been adjusted, and they've added a new 2 Taco Meal for just $7. That's a fantastic value and one of the best budget-friendly lunch or dinner options I've seen around town lately. Just another reason we'll be making plenty of return visits!
