Next time you take a walk or visit a local park around town, keep an eye out for colorful, handmade wooden boxes tucked along sidewalks and trailheads. Little Free Libraries operate on a simple, heart-centered premise: "Take a book, share a book."
These tiny book boxes make reading accessible to everyone, encouraging children and adults alike to pick up a new story. They turn everyday strolls into mini treasure hunts and build a quiet sense of community across our neighborhoods. They also rely on the generosity of local readers—if you have books on your shelves that you’ve finished and no longer need, dropping them off at a nearby Little Free Library is a wonderful way to keep these boxes stocked and inspire a neighbor's next great read.
Many of our local book boxes are official registered charters, while others were built by caring citizens or local youth. A number of them were constructed by local Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts as special Eagle Scout and community service projects. You will even spot one painted and maintained by Mt. Juliet’s own "Biking Librarian" along the Town Center Trail at Eagle Park, created as a friendly stop where folks can gather, connect, and swap stories along the greenway.
