Green Onion Deli — A Mt. Juliet Hidden Gem Worth Every Bite

I'd been hearing about Green Onion Deli for a while. Friends raving about how good it is, how fresh everything is — and after enough of that, I knew I had to see it for myself. Spoiler alert: the hype is real.

Green Onion Deli is one of those rare restaurants where you walk in and just say "Wow." From the massive deli case directly in front of you to the drink station on the left and the coffee bar on the right, this place is truly something special.

Meet Omar — The Heart Behind the Deli

The morning of my visit, I had the pleasure of meeting Omar, the kind-hearted and dedicated owner of Green Onion. His pride in this place is immediately obvious — you can feel how much he genuinely cares.

Omar has been in the Mt. Juliet area for about three years. He moved here with his family because he loves the community and wanted his kids to have access to Wilson County's top-ranked schools. When he came across the current space — previously home to another restaurant — he saw the vision for what it could become, and he hasn't looked back since.

As he walked me through the restaurant and kitchen, Omar explained his approach to food storage, sourcing, and prep. Refrigerators are the primary storage method to keep everything as fresh as possible, and his team carefully selects the best meats and produce, choosing local when possible and always prioritizing quality over price.

When I visited, two prep cooks were in the back washing produce and seasoning fresh chicken, while others buzzed around preparing for the lunch and dinner rush. It takes a large, dedicated team to make this magic happen — and Omar has around 15 full-time employees keeping things running smoothly.

The Menu — Something for Everyone

The menu at Green Onion is wonderfully vast. From tacos and burgers to made-to-order deli sandwiches, there is no shortage of options. Even better, the full menu — including breakfast — is served all day, so if you're craving waffles or scrambled eggs at dinnertime, you're in luck! There's even a kids' menu featuring things like chicken tenders and turkey corn dogs.

Feeling something on the healthier side? Every fruit and vegetable for their smoothies and fresh juices is chopped daily. Need a coffee fix? Green Onion uses Frothy Monkey brand coffee and grinds their own beans fresh.

And don't leave without peeking at the dessert case — from carrot cake to Italian cannoli, it's hard to walk away empty-handed. There is truly something for everyone here.

One more thing before you reach for a fountain drink — make sure to check out the bottled beverage station first. My kids counted 17 types of bottled water alone!

What We Ordered

As tough as it was to narrow things down, my family and I went with the Fish Taco, Buffalo Chicken Taco, BLT, Chicken and Waffles, and Fries.

The tacos were a hit. Each was topped with a fresh coleslaw made with shaved brussels sprouts and kale — a satisfying, healthy crunch — and served with a lime wedge. The condiment station offered two house-made hot sauces, a milder green and a spicier red, and honestly both were delicious.

The BLT was a true classic done right — crispy bacon, fresh produce, and melted cheese on sourdough. Simple and satisfying.

My kids both went for the Chicken and Waffles, and when the plates arrived, each waffle was a different shape — one triangular, one round — which they thought was the coolest thing. The fluffy waffles came with butter and syrup, and the two crispy chicken strips on each plate were a big hit.

For dessert, my family and I picked two treats from the display case to share. We went with the carrot cake (my personal favorite) and the red velvet cake. Both were fresh, moist, and absolutely delicious, topped with plenty of icing. Even stopping by just for a fresh cup of coffee and a slice of cake would be a great idea!

The Verdict

Green Onion Deli is the real deal — and Mt. Juliet is lucky to have it. From the freshness of the ingredients to the warmth of the staff and the passion Omar puts into every detail, this is the kind of local gem that deserves a spot in your regular rotation. Whether you're grabbing a quick lunch, bringing the whole family for dinner, or just stopping in for a coffee and something sweet, Green Onion delivers every time.

Located right at the corner of Mt. Juliet Rd and Stewart's Ferry Pike, it couldn't be more convenient for those of us on that side of town. Do yourself a favor — go check it out, and tell Omar that What's Up Mt. Juliet sent you! 🥪💚
