A Story of Faith, Recovery, and Unexpected Grace
Just a few months ago, I had the privilege of meeting Tuesday Smith, a woman with a true heart for God and an amazing testimony. Tuesday, a Mt. Juliet native, and her husband, Kevin, have called Wilson County home off and on for the past 20 years.
In March of 2023, their world changed in an instant.
While working out of state, Kevin was struck by a vehicle traveling approximately 50 miles per hour. Miraculously, he survived, but the injuries were devastating and doctors didn’t think he would ever walk again.
What followed was a long and painful journey of surgeries, physical therapy, hospital stays, and countless prayers lifted on his behalf.

A Blanket That Carried More Than Warmth
In the middle of that uncertainty, when hope often felt fragile, an unexpected gift arrived: a handmade prayer blanket.
“I remember crying when I received it,” Tuesday shared. “Someone had taken the time to create something with their hands and pray for people they had never even met.”
That blanket became more than fabric—it became comfort. It rested across Kevin’s legs in the hospital, a quiet reminder that they were not walking through that valley alone. Today, it still sits in Tuesday’s prayer room as a lasting symbol of God’s faithfulness and the kindness of others.

A Long Road Toward Healing
Against overwhelming odds, Kevin slowly began to recover. Nearly two years passed before he could walk without a walker and regain much of what had been lost.
Through every setback and every small victory, Tuesday says she witnessed the steady presence of God—and the strength of a community that refused to stop believing.

The Birth of Covered in Prayer Ministries
When the medical appointments finally began to slow and life started to settle again, she found herself asking a simple but life-changing question:
“What can I do for You?”
She felt God place it on her heart: make prayer blankets for others who are hurting.
That calling became Covered in Prayer Ministries, officially launched in January 2025.
The ministry creates handmade prayer blankets for those facing illness, grief, depression, miscarriage, loneliness, hospital stays, and some of life’s heaviest moments. Since its beginning, Tuesday has created hundreds of blankets—each one prayed over from the first stitch to the final fold.
“The prayer is the most important part,” she said.
Before she begins each blanket, Tuesday anoints her hands with oil and prays over the unknown recipient. For four to five hours as she works, she continues speaking Scripture, blessings, healing, comfort, and peace over the life it will touch. And before each blanket is sent out, she and Kevin pause together to pray over it once more.
“My heart is that people know they are not alone,” she said. “The blanket is something they can hold onto every day. I want them to feel covered in prayer.”

A Ministry Reaching Far Beyond One Family
Last year alone, Tuesday made 375 prayer blankets. This year, she has already created more than 170, continuing to grow the ministry while also sharing her testimony through her book, God Is in This Story.
Many of the recipients are strangers—people she may never meet this side of heaven. Requests come in through churches, social media, friends, and family members. Every Friday, blankets are carefully packaged and shipped to individuals across the country who are in need of encouragement and hope.
To date, Tuesday and Kevin have personally invested more than $15,000 into the ministry. Each blanket costs around $40 in materials, but Tuesday says she has never worried about provisions.
“As long as God provides the yarn, I will continue making them,” she said.

Covered in Prayer
For Tuesday, every blanket is more than a handmade gift—it is a ministry of presence. A reminder that in the hardest seasons of life, no one has to walk alone, and prayer can still reach people in deeply tangible ways.
